Description
Tender, airy homemade donuts with a hint of spice. These golden rings of joy are made with simple ingredients and are perfect for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp active dry yeast
3 tbsp melted butter (use unsalted)
¼ cup sugar
½ tsp salt
Pinch of cinnamon
Pinch of ground nutmeg
¾ cup warm milk (or plant-based alternative)
Neutral oil for frying (e.g., canola or vegetable)
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine warm milk (about 110°F) with the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
Roll the dough to about ½ inch thickness. Cut into donut shapes using a donut cutter or two round cutters.
Place donuts on a floured tray, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
Optional: Coat warm donuts in sugar or glaze of your choice.
Notes
Donuts are best enjoyed the same day. For make-ahead, refrigerate the dough overnight and shape in the morning.
